The town lies in the hollow of Rožňava on Spish – Gemerské rudohorie and the Slovak karst border. The first written record of Rožňava comes from the 13th century. The square is the largest in Slovakia. Located on the quadrate medieval square is a watch – tower from the 17th century, secession memorial of František Andrassy plaque pilar and gothic building from the 15th century.
